A common Victorian-era tragedy: the death of infant twins. I suspect this was taken inside a photographer’s studio, based on the formality of the setting. Notice the white coffins. Children’s funerals were always white, while adult funerals were in traditional black.

This appears to have been taken inside the family dining room, with the table pushed off to one side. The entire family is gathered around the sweet little girl, who is positioned with a doll and stuffed bear, probably favorite toys of hers. Even the family cat has taken up a position in someone’s lap.

Most likely a mother holding her daughter in her arms. From the look of the daughter’s shiny, elegant, pleated fabric compared against the mother’s sturdier jacket and skirt, my guess is that the girl was clothed in her finest dress for this photo. Notice the half-lidded eyes, a tell-tale sign that this was taken post-mortem.
